Volunteers

Our Volunteers

Our work at Hutt Valley RDA is almost entirely undertaken by our enthusiastic and committed volunteers. We work as a team to understand the needs of our riders, look after our horses, manage the daily rides and help with the administration. So volunteers can be involved in a number of different activities to support our programme, according to their interests and expertise.

Some of the duties of a volunteer at Hutt Valley RDA are:

  • Preparing horses prior to the riders’ arrival
  • Leading horses during riding sessions
  • Sidewalking – assisting rider during session
  • Helping with unmounted activities
  • Assisting with games and equipment for sessions
  • Fitting helmets and checking riders’ clothing
  • Maintaining paddocks and equipment
  • Keeping paperwork for rides

Join us – become part of something special

Volunteering for Hutt Valley RDA is fun and rewarding. You will have the opportunity to work with horses, you will learn new skills and enjoy the companionship of a great team of volunteers. Above all you will have the satisfaction of helping our riders in so many ways.

Experience with horses is not necessary and every volunteer will be given regular training.
